A man who received a fancy bottle of 18-year-old whiskey from his father every year on his birthday is selling the set to buy a house. Matthew Robinson, from Somerset, was born in 1992. His father Pete bought a bottle of Macallan whiskey to celebrate his son's birth.

Pete, from Milnathort in Scotland, chose the brand as he was working with a company that manufactured some of the raw materials for the whiskey. He decided to buy his son a bottle every year on his birthday.

When Matthew was young, he was strictly instructed to not open them.

In 28 years, Pete spent around £5,000 (Rs 4.77 lakh) on whisky. However, the collection is worth more than £40,000 (Rs 38.17 lakh) today as the price of the whiskey went up over the years.

Now, Matthew is planning to auction his collection to buy a house for himself. "I think it’s been one of the best things he could have done. I never anticipated the potential it could have for me in my life. I’m currently looking at buying houses and having that money available to me is a massive weight off my shoulders – especially in these uncertain times. It’s just very special," he was quoted as saying by Metro.

Pete said, "Looking at the bottle, I realised that it would be quite interesting to collect 18 bottles over 18 years." And they went on to continue the tradition for 28 years.

The collection is being sold by Mark Litter Ltd. With every bottle in its original box, the collection has been listed for a minimum price of £40,000.
